There are so many lovely things that come along with winter — hot cocoa, snow flurries, and warming up under layers of blankets with the one you love.
Falling in love made winter so much more beautiful to me. To put this in perspective, it was October of my junior year when I started dating my boyfriend Stone. My family already had a cruise planned for that Christmas, so I was overseas and separated from him for a total of 9 days over my winter break. I spent a large portion of my time on the ship crafting the gifts that I'd give to Stone when I returned, and it was in those moments that I realized I was really falling in love with him. Even when I was on the most gorgeous beaches I had ever seen, he was in the forefront of my mind. That time in my life was so special to me and now I can’t help but remember it every year when the weather gets cold and the holidays creep up once again.
Winter hasn’t always been an easy season nor has it always brought me such nostalgia. The holidays used to be extremely overwhelming for me and I know this is a common experience. If this is something you struggle with, my biggest recommendation is that you take control and make sure that you're having enjoyable experiences throughout this season. Create memories that you’ll always remember when winter comes around.
You deserve to feel happy no matter the weather. Under the sun is not the only place where happiness can flourish. It can absolutely find its place under leafless trees and skies of grey.
Until next time ◡̈
