Acceptance: “taking a stance of non-judgmental awareness and actively embracing the experience of thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations as they occur”
I have always worked hard to accept others as they are, but when have I given myself this same grace? For my whole life, I have criticized myself constantly and fought the most vital parts of my being. I have hated myself for far too long, and I deserve so much better than that. I deserve radical self-acceptance and self-love.
In 2023 I am challenging myself to accept the parts of myself that I have held back from loving. I want to feel at peace with what I see in the mirror and I want to feel content with the parts of my personality that I have suppressed because of my belief that they are “too much.”
In 2023 I want to be unapologetically me.
This is not to say that I will stop working to improve my faults, but I would like to start viewing them in a different manner. There is nothing inherently wrong with me, and I do not need to be fixed. I have a dynamic personality, and I should learn to highlight my positive traits while also working to improve my negative ones.
Moments and feelings are fleeting, so it is not worth getting stuck in my worst feelings when I could instead be transforming them into better ones. Acceptance means letting the past be the past and moving forward to create a better future. Acceptance means finally having the courage to live in the present.
My life has been ruled by anxiety for as long as I remember, and at this point, I know that it will be a part of me forever. I will never be free of anxiety, but I can learn to live a life that is not controlled by it.
That is what acceptance means to me. It means becoming the best version of myself by using what I know is already within me. I am capable of so much more than I have let myself accomplish, and I do not want to hold back any longer.
So what do you want to be in 2023? Do you want to be brave? Present? Mindful? Regardless of your personal goals, I encourage you to choose a word of the year so that you can learn to live more intentionally. If you'd like to engage with your creative side, I recommend making a vision board to help visualize your goals for the new year. I used this template to design mine in Canva and I am so happy with how it turned out. I also cut out some motivational words and phrases from my magazine collection to stick in my manifestation journal! I just really want to go into this year with a good attitude and positive outlook because I truly believe that it will set me up for success. I know today is the last day of the year so it seems kind of late for me to give this advice, but don't fret! You can start fresh any day of any year. It's never too late to begin again.
I hope everyone stays safe and has fun this New Year's Eve! Now let's conquer 2023!
